CHURCH OF SANTA LEOCADIA DE FRIXE

The parish of Santa Leocadia de Frixe has an interesting Romanesque church, built in the XII century, as were those in Nemiņa and Morquintian. It also only has one nave with a square apse, vaulted in stone with a round arch and a chequered archivolt, leaning on two adjoining columns which are finished off with capitals decorated with plant motifs.

The entrance to the church is made up of a tympanum and various archivolts leaning on four columns which are also finished off with capitals that are decorated with plant motifs.

On the outside of the apse there are some plant and animal life motifs. The front has an interesting window with two bent columns, where we can see an ancient stone statue of Santa Leocadia, patron saint of the parish.

This church at Frixe was built by the same stone masons who built the churches at Cereixo, Treos and Nemiņa, as they left the initials "P.A " engraved on the sanctuary, initials which probably correspond to the master masons who led the construction work.

At the beginning of the XVIII century, in 1714, some reforms were made to the church, among them the modification of the faįade itself, as is reflected in an inscription on it.
