Religious feasts:

SHRINE OF LA BARCA

The Pilgrimage of Virgen de La Barca (September).
It is the most important cultural event of the whole year and one of the biggest feasts in Galicia. The Pilgrimage, a real symbiosis of religious and pagan acts, revolves around the story of the Shrine of Shirne of Virgen de La Barca and the pilgrimages to Muxia along the "Camiņo Xacobeo from Santiago to Muxia" (the Route of St. James from Santiago to Muxia). These pilgrimages are a real attraction for people throughout the year, not only for people from Galicia, but from all over Spain.

Gastronomic Feasts:

Eel Festival (on Good Friday):

It's an event which aims to promote the typical product of this village. In 2001 the V edition of the festival was held. Throughout the day, there are folk music and dance events, and passacaglias, besides the eel tastings by a great number of visitors who come to Muxia on this day. The eel is prepared in a variety of ways by the different establishments in the borough (restaurants, bakeries, bars and so on) and can be tried in the large tent put up by the council for the festival, as well as in the local restaurants and bars, at a reasonable price.

Apart from this gastronomic feast, one can also enjoy other typical fish and seafood dishes throughout the year.
